This is for any Waco city officials that may be reading: Dallas is adding free WiFi.
I'm a big believer is the virtues of WiFi broadband access. I use it at home, in fact, I'm using it right now. But the cost of broadband Internet and the 100 bucks for the router would make it prohibitively expensive for some Waco residents.
But if it was a service provided by the city, like any other public utility, the cost could be spread out and the only thing left to do would be to make sure those people who couldn't afford computers with WiFi cards get them for better access to the Internet. Maybe we could find a way for people to donate old computers. Food for thought.
The important thing is for people to start thinking of the Internet as everybody's Internet. It shouldn't just be for rich people, especially when broadband WiFi is concerned. It could make the difference in outside of school education. I think of it as a right for all people to partake of the information contained online and we the people need to find a way for all of us to use it.
