Felix Alvarado, front-runner extraordinnaire

There is a lot of speculation about Felix Alvarado's candidacy for governor. This week saw the release of a Survey USA poll of 400 registered voters. In said poll, Alvarado had the highest favorable rating of the Democratic field (8%) even though it was well within the margin of error.

Kuff lays out why the poll was flawed and doesn't tell us anything useful (didn't I say that earlier this week?)

Royal Masset started this whole thing when he tried to compare Alvarado to Victor Morales' 1996 Senate bid. And proving that, good sport though he may be, Paul Burka is still a colossal idiot by agreeing. I don't know how to tell them this, but Hispanic voters look for more than just a surname on the ballot. They aren't idiots in South Texas. They care about the issues, have individual concerns and their own personal preferences. The color of you skin is not as accurate a gauge for voting as Masset and Burka would have you believe.

Whatever the concerns in South Texas, I'm sure they don't know where Alvarado stands on them because he's done no fundraising and no campaigning. It's hard to win a statwide campaign without money and without travelling to meet people.

No, Bell is still the guy to beat in March.
