Texan of the Year: Blogger Style Reveal

Well, time reveals all and the winner of the first annual Texan of the Year: Blogger Style is State Rep. Carter Casteel. she was nominated by you, the readers, then won out in a fierce competition amongst us bloggers.Bloggerreveal

You would think it was impossible the Republican from District 73 would win in a group of liberal/progressive bloggers, but I suppose that is just a testament to how good a legislator she really is.

Oftentimes, here at Common Sense, the tone is one of 'Republicans are the enemy.' The truth is, my chosen party can never have all the seats or all the say. Republicans are going to win elections too. It is my fervent hope that those Republicans would show the same judgement and integrity that Rep. Casteel has shown this last legislative session.

Her votes bringing down school vouchers and for the Hochberg Amendment, a very good amendment which stalled a very bad school finance plan in the second special session, were votes for the people of Texas. They were votes of conscience; not the usual part-line stuff that drives so many people to become apathetic about the politicl situation here in Texas.

In an era where political watchers are jaded and cynical about what is happening in the Lege, I'm glad we could take the time to honor someone who has the courage to do what's right instead of what's easy. The Texas blogosphere is wise; we chose substance over style.

I'm glad I could be a part of it.

Other blogs writing about Carter Casteel today: Pink Dome, People's Republic of Seabrook, Eye on Williamson County, Appalachia Alumni Association, By The Bayou and In The Pink Texas. More as the day unfolds.

Brains and Eggs, The Agonist, Annatopia, The Jeffersonian and Off the Kuff all have posts up now.
