Congressman Edwards, kicking ass and taking names

I just really wanted to write that headline, the story is about increased attention and spending in the new TX-17 that Edwards has represented since 2004 and the DeLay redistricting.

More than $100 million (yeah, that's a lot) in federal dollars for projects that Edwards has only represented since November 2004. Roads, bridges, hike and bike trails, you name it.

“In the short amount of time he has represented our district he has come up with some significant projects,” said Don Fazzino, manager of legislative affairs for the city of College Station, counting off a list that includes $2 million for widening University Drive and a slate of funds for Texas A&M University.

When he was unable to collect $1 million for economic development at the Hearne Municipal Airport, Edwards could point to nearly $500,000 in funding for flood prevention after massive floods in 2004.

Yes, I know, he's a tax and spend liberal. I've heard that before.

Brazos County Republican Party Chairman David Kent said Edwards' projects could help him in the community, but won't protect him from a strong GOP challenge.

Republican primary contenders have tied Edwards to liberal spending in Congress that they hope to eliminate if they win election in 2006.

If you call a former staff ass and a guy who moved here 6 months ago a strong GOP challenge, that is. And they want eliminate spending on local projects? That's some campaign slogan: "Vote for me, I'll make sure you get no money to build roads, to prevent floods or to encourage small business growth!"

I see 'em lining up for miles to vote for that campaign platform.
