I wouldn't be paranoid if they weren't out to get me

In one of the posts below, a commenter linked to a story about BYU professor Steven Jones and his theory that the WTC towers collapsed due to "pre-planted explosives" set by "insiders" who used the planes as a cover for what really happened.

Everyone who knows me knows that I read every book on the JFK assassination. I'm totally convinced that Oswald was a patsy and that elements within the CIA and the military-industrialist complex were responsible for the death so that Vietnam could take place. I'm even pretty sure that the UNOCAL pipeline through Afghanistan had something to do with 9/11 and our subsequent invasion of Afghanistan.

Conspiracy Theorist Numero Uno.

But I don't buy the big conspiracy in the 9/11 scenario offered here. Especially when so many studies have shown that exactly what we think happened on 9/11 did indeed happen.

As for the physics, Popular Mechanics has a good rundown explaining that part. The impact from the planes took out some central supports and removed the fire resistant coating on the steel girders. The jet fuel the planes were loaded with for cross-continent flights burned hot enough to weaken that steel. Weight and gravity handled the rest.

As for the controlled descent that looks like a professional demo team did it, that's because gravity pulls things down, not to the side. I'm no professor, but I do know a thing or two about physics (quantum mechanics is a hobby).

Those controlled destructions are done with C4 which blows out the central supports for any building, bringing it down within its own footprint. Anything that takes away that support brings the building down in the same manner. After an hour of continuous high-fuel fire, the top 20 floors in each building were too much weight for the supports. As each floor came down, the combined weight was too much for the floor underneath's supports which led to catastrophic failure and collapse.

There was no grand conspiracy or a cabal of people in the CID (where the real clandestine stuff happens) that planted explosives and staged the whole thing.

Going for these sorts of theories diminishes the reality of what is an incredibly tragic event in American history. The more we understand what really happened, the more we can work to prevent it from happening again, both from the practical side with building safety and construction and the esoteric side in how we interact with other people around the world.

Some crazy religious people killed 2,000 people on September 11, 2001. We should accept the reality that some people in this world view the sacrifice of their own lives as a noble goal if it means killing us, too. The sooner we do that, the sooner we can understand why people think this way and stop it from happening again.

As a side note, the fact that I got this from Michelle Malkin and that I'm agreeing with her on how stupid a proposition it is should tell you how ridiculous it is and how freakin' far out to sea these people are.

Even if you are not paranoid doesn't mean everyone isn't out to get you!

Great article. I have one similar in my blog. check it out, and I left a link for you!
