Wow, some interesting reactions on Miers

Just reading what some conservatives are saying about Miers makes me wonder how this is really backing down from a fight.

That seems to be the general sentiment, that he picked a spineless former Democrat instead of the true-blue conservative that the movement has been preparing 20 years to put on the Bench. They are feeling betrayed and the Democrats aren't sure whether to oppose her along with some Republicans to cripple the Bush presidency or pass her to keep from having a Scalia monster come through they can't vote down.

Someone was arguing for Ann Coulter to be the nominee (that's going to give me nightmares) and others are wondering what her giving to Gore in 1988 was all about.

Let's remember, 1988 was the year the wildly popular Ann Richards gave the "silver foot in his mouth" speech at the DNC. Not "everybody from Texas" was a conservative Democrat. Rick Perry was and Lloyd Bentsen was, but not everybody.

Stephen Bainbridge thinks that President Bush is taking a big 'ol whiz on his conservative base.

And Michelle Malkin (I'm breaking precedent again) says "Don't Get Stuck on Stupid." She has a baseball cap (which always sell better than t-shirts) and everything.

It's still not really clear to me if the Senate Dems are opposing Miers or are campaigning for her confirmation just to piss off the Republicans. Regardless, Kuff thinks she should maybe answer questions since no one knows where she stands on anything whatsoever.
