Wanna bet, Chet

The GOP primary for TX-17 has, I don't know, congealed. I guess that is a good descriptive word. They were once five, now they are three. Dropping like flies, hehehe.

The race now centers on a congressional aide and two decorated former military officers as the GOP seeks a new face to take on U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, an eight-term incumbent.

Former Capitol Hill assistant and attorney Tucker Anderson, Harvard graduate and Iraq war platoon leader Van Taylor and two-time Purple Heart recipient Bentley Nettles are raising money and promising a positive, strong campaign.

So an eight-term incumbent is running against these guys?

Who votes for a staffer when they have an eight-term incumbent that is doing a good job? What good does it do to make the Iraq War a central part of the campaign if the guy you're running against has been a vocal supporter?

The only thing that Edwards has against him is that he's a Democrat in a Republican district. If the voters in TX-17 wanted a rubber stamp for President Bush, they had the chance to do it in 2004 and 2002.  Next time around, depending on the polls, independence might start looking more appealing to the GOP possibles.

And I don't see their primary being very civilized. The day that Republicans run against each other in a three-way primary and don't sling mud is the day that I give up politics. I will shut down the blog and live in a cave.
