Ronnie Earle is on my Christmas card list

Tom DeLay has stepped down as Majority Leader due to indictment on a criminal conspiracy charge in the TRMPAC scandal. Ronnie Earle didn't let us down.

The charge, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years incarceration, stems from his role with his political committee, Texans for a Republican Majority, a now-defunct organization that already had been indicted on charges of illegally using corporate money during the 2002 legislative elections.

DeLay, of course, says the charge is unfounded. But the grand jury decided to indict based on evidence that TRMPAC did indeed use corporate cash for Texas elections and DeLay's role in running TRMPAC was what led to suspicion he had broken the law.

I'm not going to go out on a limb and say he will be found guilty, but it sure does look that way.

You reap what you sow, Tom.

The indictment and a statement from Travis County district attorney Ronnie Earle are available at QR.
