Bless this mess

It's not quite over yet, but it looks like New Orleans is going to survive. Katrina looks like she is turning north-northeast after slamming into the Gulf coast this morning. Some parts of the city are underwater and a portion of the Superdome roof was torn off, but I have yet to hear any mass casualty reports or hear of large-scale flooding. We may not know the full extent of the damage until Tuesday morning, though.

The Mississippi coast is another story. It sounds really bad there, but the staff writers of the Sun Herald newspaper have stuck with it and blogged the storm in real time. Eyes on Katrina is another example of how blogging can be the best way for writers and readers to communicate in the middle of such an event.

Another blog, eight feet deep, is written in Beaumont, not too far from the center of the action. Our good friend Dick has written a few posts on this particular hurricane.

If I find out more about New Orleans, I'll let you know.
