Somebody pop some popcorn

Strayhorn and Perry are already going at it, and they're talking about school finance.

Now, I'm pretty sure I'm psychic because I forsaw all of this. Or I just guessed pretty well. I don't remember if I wrote about it here, but I blabbed to just about anyone who would listen more than a month ago that Strayhorn was going to announce and begin her campaign this month, and that her main plank was going to be education.

Enough, self-aggrandizement, what does this mean? It means Strayhorn has some decent political advice. The hot-button topic going into March will be school financing and how the Lege keeps screwing it up. Strayhorn will attack saying it is "failure on the governor's part to lead us to the promised land." Perry will defend with the ol' "I just veto the bills, I don't write them" line. And hopefully Chris Bell will argue that the Republicans have had umpteen chances to get this right and it's their fault and here's our plan.

BTW, the Democratic school financing plan failed by one vote today, which means that some people are desperate for any solution. That is much better than I thought it would do, and much better than the governor's plan.

I like Strayhorn's aggressiveness. Right now, I would judge them about even. The comptroller has a small base, but Perry has low poll numbers. And anyone who knows about poker (I'm using a metaphor here) knows that the more aggressive player will win the pot if both people have the same cards. Right now they both have Queen-Ten and Grandma is all in. As long as she is on the attack, she fires up her base to give her more money, which she desperately needs, and she doesn't have to bother about defending her own rhetoric. Perry is on defense and you don't score points on defense (another metaphor). As long as she keeps on him, the headlines will read "Strayhorn rips/torpedoes/throttles/sinks/assrapes Perry Plan." That last one is something you are likely to see right here.

So she's playing smart and aggressive. Right now, advantage Strayhorn.

UPDATE: Now I know i'm psychic because I quoted Pink Dome without even reading PD's post first. Wow, i'm good.

Orville Redenbacher's Pour Over Butter please...and the flavored salt they sell at Walmart (and have at the big theater in Killeen). Yummy!

See you on the high ground...I'll be the one picking the kernals out of my teeth.
